Eid means love to elders, pocket money to young ones and celebration to all. But when it comes to Bollywood Eid also means a great business day for big budget movies. Chennai Express is also releasing this Eid with a big star cast of Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. The film has been directed by Rohit shetty, who knows the formula of making a film successful very well.
Now the competition of this Shahrukh Khan starrer film is with ‘Once upon a time in Mumbai-2′ which has Akshay kumar playing the male lead. Keeping all these facts in mind, let’s try and make a logical prediction about box office collection of Chennai Express.
According to the storyline of this film, SRK meets Deepika on a train and falls in love some scenes later and then some goons attack both of them who are apparently sent by Deepika’s father and the story continues like this. But the story has many confusions and drawbacks too. These types of stories can only get success on single screen. We don’t think it will be very successful in Multiplex, especially when the film is competing against Akshay kumar’s movie who has the magnetism to attract audience towards cinema halls. We expect this film to make 20 crores on the first opening day and a total collection of around 130 crores, but we don’t think that this film could break the record of last year’s Eid Blockbuster ‘ Ek Tha Tiger’ which made 33 crores on the first day and whose overall collection was a little less than 200 crores.
Even both the movies combined together cannot break the first day collection record of ‘Ek Tha Tiger’. Now there is one more fact that releases are getting bigger with time and this Eid is having a double bonanza of having Shahrukh and Akshay come on the same day. So there are possibilities of some new records to be made at the box office. Both Shahrukh and Salman have a very huge fan following so it will be fun to see what happens on August 8.
Chennai Express Opening Day Collection – 20 Crores
Chennai Express First weekend Collection - 47 crores
Chennai Express Total Collection- 130 crores
